It all started when…

Established in 1981 by Elizabeth Launder. Skelwith stud is breeding and producing international show jumpers, Welsh Cobs and Welsh Mountain Ponies.

Skelwith Stud has produced a line of successful international show jumpers. All jumpers are descendants of the original Belgium Warmblood mare, Lady Passia who jumped in the Mexican World Games and a number national cup qualifiers. Liz’s aim was to breed a sharper, lighter, faster horse for the modern courses. Mares are artificially inseminated yearly using international semen from mostly German and Sel Fancia (Balou Du Reuet, Sir Shutter Fly).

The Welsh Cobs produced by the stud excel in multiple disciplines including dressage, show jumping, working hunter, and in hand showing. The stud is primarily based in Llanerfyl, Mid Wales- this is where the four resident Welsh Cob stallions reside. Alongside the Welsh Cobs Skelwith Stud has been producing compact, performance Welsh Mountain ponies for children and small adults for the past 20 years. The numbers have increased over the last 7 years following the arrival of Liz’s 5 grandchildren who are now all keen jockeys!

Skelwith stud has had a number of successes during the 2018 show season. Skelwith Adonis gained a higher first as an event horse at the British Futurity Evaluations and won a bronze medal rosette as a Welsh Partbred. In addition the Skelwith Stud Welsh Cobs, Warmbloods and Mountains Ponies been adding to an extensive history of qualifications for the Royal International, Horse of the Year Show, as well as winning at county level.
